Unifying Three Platforms into One Scalable B2B Ecommerce Experience
B2B Ecommerce
Introduction
Composites One is the largest distributor in the composites industry, serving 9,000+ customers across engineering, purchasing, supply chain, and executive roles. Despite holding nearly 60% market share, their digital ecosystem was fragmented across three separate web experiences.
Problem: Composites One had 3 web experiences that needed to brought together into 1 site:
-
Legacy B2B ecommerce portal
-
Corporate marketing website
-
An incomplete attempt to merge both
C1's attempted design was developed without input from important internal stakeholders and was falling short in terms of content and overall business goals.
Goal: Design and launch a unified, mobile-friendly B2B commerce platform that improves usability, aligns content to customer needs, and increases customer satisfaction.
Process: To inform the Information Architecture, I read through the UX research and VOC insights to understand user mental models and content priorities.
Based on those findings, I developed two distinct IA models and created interactive prototypes to test navigation preferences with users.
In parallel, I collaborated closely with the content strategist to translate content outlines into mini wireframe illustrations, ensuring stakeholders could clearly see how structure and messaging would integrate within the experience.
With a validated IA direction and aligned content framework, I transitioned into five agile UX/UI sprints, designing the core B2B ecommerce experience for the unified platform.
Team: Executive Director of UX, UX Designer (Me), Project Manager, UI Designer and External Development Team

SOLUTION
As UX Architect, I led the Information Architecture and sprint execution to unify three fragmented experiences into one cohesive B2B ecommerce platform.
IA Modeling & Validation: I created two distinct IA models and tested interactive prototypes with users to determine preferred navigation patterns. Insights from testing informed the final navigation structure, aligning product hierarchy with real user mental models. In addition, I developed a consolidated sitemap that merged corporate content, ecommerce functionality, and technical resources into one scalable ecosystem.
Content & UX Alignment: Partnering with a content strategist, I translated content outlines into mini wireframe illustrations to ensure clarity, hierarchy, and stakeholder alignment before moving into the 5 sprints.
Across five agile sprints, I designed key B2B commerce templates including:
-
Global navigation, search & mega menu
-
Product listing & product detail pages
-
Account functionality like orders, quotes and lists

Results
The unified platform successfully launched in 2026, consolidating three disconnected web experiences into one scalable B2B ecommerce site. The validated IA reduced structural complexity and aligned navigation to real user mental models.
Key takeaways:
-
Validating IA through user testing reduces enterprise risk and builds stakeholder confidence.
-
Unifying content and commerce requires structural discipline — not just visual redesign.
-
Early cross-functional alignment prevents costly rework and strengthens long-term scalability.
